The Pretty and Passionate: Sarah Penafuerte of Paranaque

Special talents: I’m not sure! Maybe I haven’t discovered it yet, but I can mimic Armi Millare’s (vocalist of UDD) singing voice!

Favorite thing about where you’re from: My favorite thing about Paranaque is that the city government still celebrates traditions. Every February, we have the week-long Sunduan Festival. We also have the Komedya, a traditional type of theater play shown during the fiesta celebration of one of Paranaque’s biggest barangays, San Dionisio.

Dream place to live in: I would definitely want to live somewhere in Europe, maybe France or The Netherlands. There’s something about that continent that fascinates me, and it’s probably the culture and the politics. Quick fact: I majored in European Studies in college.

Wildest dream pet: I am a hardcore panda lover and I would love to have one, to the point of being willing to relocate to China (there’s a panda facility there and they’re looking for caretakers for pandas) just so I could hug pandas everyday!

Favorite iconic movie line: “Sana ako pa rin, ako na lang, ako na lang ulit.” (One More Chance, 2007)

Celebrity look-alike: Honestly, people tell me I have a lot of look-alikes from ABS-CBN’s Liza Soberano to GMA7’s Gwen Zamora. I haven’t seen Liza but I have seen Gwen personally and I think I look more like Gwen than Liza.

Local celebrity idol: Hands down to Liza Soberano because she’s the ultimate goddess, but it seems like she’s also very down-to-earth. Despite being very popular, she’s still humble and still has that shyness every time she’s on TV. She’s everyone’s ultimate crush and I’m sure it’s not only me, but any girl would be lucky to experience the life of Liza Soberano even for a day.

If you were not modeling, what would your career be?

I would like to be a flight attendant because aside from my love for traveling, it is also one of my dream careers to pursue.

How did you realize you wanted to be a model?

Ever since I was a kid, I was bullied for being chubby. I have been teased because I set it as a goal to lose weight, but would always end up gaining more weight. I have been a victim of body shaming all throughout my life. I thought to myself that if I could have a platform to show how being plus size is not a problem, then maybe people would start treating us with the respect that we deserve. That’s when I realized that modeling could be a good place to start.

What positive impact do you want to make as a model?

I would want to raise the amount of respect that people give to plus size people. I want to prove to them that there is more to being plus size than what meets the eye, and that it’s not always about the size of our bodies but rather our character. I want to represent the plus size community, through Boardwalk, and embody these attributes and hopefully change the way that people view plus size men, women, and even the little kids who are bullied because of their bodies.

What was your reaction when you found out you won Boardwalk’s Model Search?

Honestly, I was surprised. When I got a call from Boardwalk, all I could say during the entire duration of the call was “Wow! Thank you so much po!” It was overwhelming, and I am just grateful for being given such opportunity.

Boardwalk style is…

… stylish and comfy at the same time! And I think everyone looks for both of those qualities when picking their clothes because I believe comfort should never be sacrificed for style.

I would never leave the house without…

Definitely the accessories! Super gorgeous!
